Boat lift pricing is the question we get more than any other, and most of the answers online are useless because they quote a national average. Gulf Coast water is a different problem than a freshwater lake. Here is what the numbers actually look like here.
The short answer
A standard residential cradle lift runs $5,000 to $15,000 installed. Larger capacity lifts and elevator-style lifts run $15,000 to $40,000 and up. Those are real installed numbers for this coast, not equipment-only prices.
What moves the price
Weight capacity
Capacity is the single biggest driver. A 4,000 pound lift for a bay boat and a 24,000 pound lift for a sportfish are not the same machine. Size the lift to the boat you own plus fuel, water, gear and a margin. Undersizing a lift to save money is the most expensive mistake in this category, because the fix is a second lift.
Lift type
Four-post cradle lifts are the workhorse and the most economical. Elevator lifts suit shallow water and tight shorelines but cost more. Floating lifts and personal watercraft lifts sit at the lower end. Which one fits is mostly decided by your water depth and shoreline, not by preference.
Water depth and bottom conditions
Deeper water means longer pilings. Soft bottom means deeper driving to reach bearing. Both add material and barge time. Two neighbours on the same street can get quotes that differ by thousands for this reason alone.
Whether pilings already exist
If your dock already has sound pilings in the right positions, a lift can often be hung from them. If not, pile driving is part of the job. That is usually the difference between the bottom and the middle of the range.
Power and controls
Running power to the lift, adding remote controls, upgrading to a stainless or aluminium drive, and adding a cradle for a second vessel all add cost. None of them are required, and we will tell you which ones actually earn their keep in salt water.
What an installed quote from us includes

What a cheap quote usually leaves out
If a number looks low, check whether it includes pilings, permits and electrical. Those three are where a $9,000 lift becomes a $16,000 project after the fact. We would rather give you the real number on the first visit.
Salt water changes the maintenance math
Gulf Coast lifts live in a corrosive environment. Stainless hardware, sealed motors and proper cable maintenance cost more up front and save the whole lift later. A freshwater-spec lift installed on saltwater will look like a bargain for about three years.
