Dune Crossover Construction by Gulf Coast Dock Masters
A dune crossover is the only right way to get from your property to the beach. It carries foot traffic over the dune instead of through it, which keeps the sea oats and the root system intact, keeps the dune doing its job in a storm, and keeps you on the right side of the coastal regulations that protect it. Gulf Coast Dock Masters designs and builds dune crossovers along coastal Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and southeast Louisiana.
Every crossover we build is drawn for the property it sits on. Dune height, the distance to the mean high water line, the setbacks on your lot and the local maximum width all change the design. We survey the site, draw the structure, carry it through permitting and build it.
What a Gulf Coast Dock Masters dune crossover includes
Elevated walkway framed and decked to clear the dune crest without disturbing the vegetation underneath, with the pilings set by our own equipment.
Stairs and landings at the grade changes, sized and spaced for comfortable use rather than the minimum the code allows.
Handrails and guardrails built to code and detailed with marine grade stainless fasteners so they survive the salt air.
Observation deck or bench landing where the lot and the permit allow it, which is the part most owners end up using every day.
Material options including pressure treated southern yellow pine, composite decking and hardwood, each with different cost and maintenance over the life of the structure.
Beach access gate or ADA ramp runs for commercial, condominium and HOA properties that need them.
Permitting and the dune itself
Dune work is one of the most closely watched categories on this coast. Construction seaward of the coastal construction control line, work near protected vegetation and anything that affects the dune profile goes through state coastal management review, and in many communities a local review on top of it. That is normal and we plan for it. We prepare and submit the applications, work with the reviewing agencies, and schedule construction around the approvals. Projects that respect the dune get approved. Projects that cut through it do not, and the ones that got built anyway become the owner’s problem at resale or after the next storm.
Why choose Gulf Coast Dock Masters
Licensed and insured in Alabama, Louisiana and Florida. One contractor across the whole coast rather than a different outfit in every state.
We own our equipment. Barges, push boats, cranes and pile hammers are ours, which is why our schedules hold when everyone else is waiting on a rental.
Permitting is part of the service. We handle the applications and the agency back and forth. You are not managing that yourself.
Built for this coast. Salt air, storm surge and shifting sand are the normal operating conditions here, and the details that matter are in the fasteners, the embedment depth and the connections.
Free on site assessment anywhere in our service area, with a written scope and price before anything begins.
Service areas
Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fort Morgan, Dauphin Island, Perdido Key, Perdido Beach, Innerarity Point, Pensacola, Fairhope, Daphne, Mobile, New Orleans and the surrounding communities and parishes.
